Remote simultaneous interpreting
Since March 2020 many of my assignments have been online, from high-level meetings to routine workshops. The interpretation goes into a separate channel of the platform, and each participant chooses the language.
Platforms
- Zoom with language interpretation, Interprefy, SpeakUs, KUDO, Interactio, Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams.
- If the platform has no separate channel, we switch to consecutive.
How I work
- I connect early and test the sound and the interpretation channel with the technical host.
- On long sessions we work in pairs, as in a regular booth.
- I prepare the glossary and materials exactly as for an in-person event.
What I need from the organiser
- A link, the interpreter role on the platform and a technical rehearsal the day before.
- Speakers with a headset or an external microphone: a built-in laptop microphone spoils the sound for everyone.
- Slides and speeches in advance.
